The
Oakpod, founded by TaSin Sabir, was born from
TaSin’s love of Oakland and her desire to take her
artistic background and combine it with her personal goal
of bringing people together in positive ways.

Biography:
TaSin Sabir's artwork can be described as vibrant and full
of powerful and emotional messages. Skilled in a range of
mediums (including photography, painting, film, web &
print design, and screen printing), TaSin uses this love for
art making to express topics that are of an importance to
her. In 2004 TaSin graduated from California College of Arts
and Crafts, where she received a BFA in Fine Arts Photography.
Born and raised in Oakland California TaSin’s artwork
has been exhibited all around the Bay Area and Nation. Such
galleries include, The Oakland Museum of California, The African
American Historical and Cultural Society Museum, The Richmond
Art Center, The Judas Magnes Museum, Pro Arts Gallery, and
the African American Museum in Philadelphia.
TaSin has traveled
to Jamaica, Cuba, Spain, and Mexico. A natural born documentary
and fine arts photographer, she contributes regularly to
the San Francisco Bay View Newspaper and New America Media.
Born from her
love of Oakland in 2007 TaSin launched “The Oakpod”
an art gallery where Oakland’s creativity and vibrant
culture can come together in this pod like vessel she calls
a gallery. The Oakpod officially opened it’s doors
August 25th, 2007.
TaSin’s future goals include developing art theory
programs for Oakland youth and completing several book projects.
